- 1 cup of dried beans
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 2 green chilies, chopped
- 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 2 tbsp oil
- Salt to taste
- Water as required

- A pressure cooker
- A frying pan
- A spoon

Method
- Soak the beans overnight or for at least 6 hours in water.
- Drain the water and keep the beans aside.
- Heat oil in a pressure cooker and add cumin seeds.
- Once the cumin seeds splutter, add chopped onions and green chilies.
- Saute until the onions turn translucent.
- Add ginger-garlic paste and saute for a minute.
- Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn soft and mushy.
- Add all the spice powders and salt. Mix well.
- Add the soaked beans and mix well.
- Add enough water to cover the beans completely.
- Cover the pressure cooker with the lid and cook for around 20-25 minutes or until the beans are soft and tender.
- Remove the lid and cook for a couple of minutes to let the gravy thicken.
- Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with rice.
Notes
