Method

  1. Wash the brown rice and lentils in water and soak them for 30 minutes.
  2. Heat oil in a pressure cooker and add cumin seeds and mustard seeds.
  3. When the seeds start to splutter, add chopped onion, garlic, and green chili.
  4. Saute them until the onion turns translucent.
  5. Add chopped tomato and cook until it becomes soft and mushy.
  6. Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and garam masala.
  7. Mix well and cook for a minute.
  8. Add soaked brown rice and lentils.
  9. Add 2 cups of water and salt to taste.
  10. Stir well and close the pressure cooker lid.
  11. Cook for 3 to 4 whistles on high flame.
  12. Let the pressure release naturally, and then open the lid.
  13. Mix well and serve hot with yogurt or pickle.
