- 1 cup of uncooked rice
- 1/4 cup of tamarind pulp
- 1/4 cup of peanuts

- 1/2 teaspoon of cumin seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric powder
- 1/2 teaspoon of red chili powder
- 1/4 teaspoon of asafoetida
- 2 tablespoons of oil
- Salt to taste

- A heavy bottom pan
- A mixing bowl
- A spatula
- A grinder
Method
- Cook the rice and let it cool.
- In a pan, roast the peanuts and sesame seeds until they turn golden brown.
- Grind the roasted peanuts and sesame seeds along with grated coconut into a coarse powder.
- In another pan, heat oil and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and asafoetida. Let them splutter.
- Add the tamarind pulp, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt to the pan and mix well.
- Add the ground powder to the pan and mix well.
- Add the cooked rice to the pan and mix well until the rice is coated with the tamarind mixture.
- Cover the pan with a lid and simmer for 5-10 minutes.
- Turn off the heat and let it cool for a few minutes.
- Serve hot with papad or raita.
Notes
- If you don't have tamarind pulp, you can soak a small piece of tamarind in water for a few minutes and extract the pulp.
- You can adjust the amount of red chili powder based on your spice preference.
- This dish can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days.
