Ingredients

- 1 cup basmati rice - 1 onion, chopped - 1 tomato, chopped - 1 green chili, chopped - 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste - 1/2 tsp cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp coriander powder - 1/2 tsp garam masala powder - 1/4 tsp turmeric powder - 1/2 cup prawns, cleaned and deveined - 1 tbsp oil - 2 cups water - Salt to taste

Method

1. Wash the rice several times until the water runs clear. Soak the rice in water for 20 minutes. 2. Heat oil in a rice cooker and add cumin seeds. 3. Once the cumin seeds start to splutter, add the chopped onions and green chili. Saute until the onions turn translucent. 4. Add the ginger-garlic paste and saute for another minute. 5. Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn soft and mushy. 6. Add the coriander powder, garam masala powder, turmeric powder, and salt. Mix well. 7. Add the cleaned and deveined prawns and saute for 2-3 minutes. 8. Drain the soaked rice and add it to the rice cooker. Mix well with the prawns and spices. 9. Add 2 cups of water and check for salt. Adjust the salt if required. 10. Close the lid of the rice cooker and cook until the rice is done. 11. Once the rice is cooked, let it sit for 5 minutes before opening the lid. 12. Fluff the rice with a fork and serve hot with raita or any side dish of your choice.

Notes

- You can use any type of prawns for this dish, but it is recommended to use fresh and medium-sized prawns. - You can adjust the spices according to your taste preferences. - You can add some fried onions and cashews on top of the biryani for an extra crunch.
